We received a question about jaundice in exclusively breastfed babies. Dr. Lori Feldman-Winter responded: "With implementation of the ten steps, especially skin to skin fully implemented, breastfeeding is more likely to get off to a successful start. This in turn will make it more likely that suckling is more effective and often, two conditions that decrease the likelihood of severe hyperbilirubinemia. The weight is one parameter, but a more sensitive predictor is the frequency of effective suckling."
